With the Malaysian premier now being the proud owner of a gold plated mobile phone, envious consumers – with enough cash to splash – can join his ranks thanks to a gold plating mobile phone service.

Pocket-lint reports that UK firm Amosu offers a service to customise existing handsets with bespoke 24-carat gold plating, while also offering a range of ready-made gold plated electronic devices.

Among the gold-plated goodies advertised on Amosu`s site is an LG Prada 24-carat gold phone on offer at £499, down from £699.

"Using quality diamonds, gold and white gold …we can also make one off exclusive pieces or limited editions within your specification for special occasions or just a gift," Amosu notes.

Other items covered in the precious yellow metal available from Amosu are an Apple iPod coated in 24-carat gold and 24-carat gold cover-cases.
